text-decoration-line: none;">巴基斯坦</a>籍人士，他们多以白巾缠头)，由於他们扮相古怪、爱载一只大如铜元的耳环，所以耳朵要穿耳窿，港人觉得可憎，便称之为「大耳窿」。第二种说法是，因为活跃於街市放高利贷的人，爱在耳朵塞一枚银元(当时已是非常大的数目 )作记认，以示自己有钱可借，所以便叫他们为「大耳窿」。<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 15px; text-decoration-line: none;">高利贷</a>危害人民，於是立例管制，放债人须领牌，此名为财务公司的Money Lender，直译为「借钱」(放债)者。这种放债财务公司须交税。申请放债人牌照，首先由警方调查申请人有没有黑社会背景，证实「身家清白」才交法庭审理，但亦非由法官一人决定，而是有两名市民协同审查，经3人一致通过才发牌，并限定年息不可多於六分息(60厘)。<p style="margin-top: 0px; font-size: 14px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">在1990年代，香港的信用卡普遍向过期还款的客户收取高达25%年利率的罚息。有团体指出，若连同手续费亦当中利息支出的一部份的话，事实上所收取的利息已超过高利贷所容许的利息。举例说:假设信用卡结馀尚欠5000元未支付，到了月末的应付利息支出，按照年息25%的计法，应为: 然而，信用卡尚有一条款称:若罚息少於$150，则会向客户收取$150行政费或手续费。结果: 到了现在，甚至有人向财务公司借钱不遂，还反过来被追讨手续费的事件发生。因此，借贷时不可提防这些手续费的陷阱。
